연화도 Yeonhwado
Yeonhwado (연화도 ) the traditional Korean art of painting lotus flowers, celebrated as symbols of purity, resilience, and spiritual awakening. In this four-week course, you’ll dive into the techniques of creating these elegant blooms, with each session offering a mindful journey through layers of color and symbolism. Guided by the gentle, flowing strokes of Minhwa, Yeonhwado allows you to express tranquility and balance on paper—a perfect way to connect with both art and inner calm.
No prior experience is needed, just bring your curiosity and a desire to learn something deeply enriching!
In this course all materials are included, and you'll receive guidance from an experienced teacher.

Class Details
Week 1: Materials and Painting Lines
In the first week, we'll dive into the essentials of traditional Korean painting by familiarizing ourselves with the materials. You'll learn how to properly handle brushes, ink, and paper, and we’ll focus on mastering the art of painting lines with 먹 (meog), which form the foundation of Korean art techniques.
Week 2: Color Mixing and Paint Base
During the second week, we’ll explore the delicate process of mixing pigments and to achieve the vibrant and harmonious palettes typical of Korean painting. You’ll also learn how to apply paint bases effectively, setting the stage for more complex work in the following weeks.
Week 3: Paint Gradients and Shadows.
In the third week, we'll delve into shading techniques and how to build gradient, 바림 (barim), which are crucial for adding depth and dimension to your paintings. You’ll learn how to create subtle gradients and contrasts that bring the subjects of your artwork to life, enhancing their realism and visual impact.
Week 4: Finishing Lines
In the final week, we’ll focus on the finishing lines that refine and complete your artwork. You’ll apply the skills you've developed throughout the course to add the final touches, ensuring that your painting captures the essence of traditional Korean art. By the end of this session, you'll have a finished piece that reflects your progress and understanding of the art form.
